Counselling Services

Telephone Helpline

Provides advice, information and, if appropriate, counselling to callers who are concerned about an issue of rape, sexual assault or child sexual abuse at any time in their lives, or who are themselves supporting someone around these issues, either through their work or their personal lives. The number is (023) 80636313.

Open on Sunday from 7 pm – 10 pm, Tuesday from 10 am – 1 pm and Thursday from 1 pm – 4 pm. On Tuesdays the Help line maybe staffed by Male & Female counsellors.

At other times, if your call is not answered, you can leave a message to be called back.

Our minicom helpline number for deaf people is (023) 80636314. It is open at the same times as the telephone helpline. At other times, you can leave a message to be called back.

Face to Face Counselling

Is available to any male or female, aged 12 or over, who have experienced rape, sexual assault or child sexual abuse at any time in their lives. Counselling can be arranged by calling us on the helpline number above.

All counselling is confidential, completely free of charge and can be short or long-term, as appropriate. All our counsellors receive training and regular supervision.

We are committed to providing interpreters (including signers) wherever necessary and where funding is available.

Therapy Group

The SPACE group is a psychodynamic therapy group for women, aged 18 or over, who have difficulties following sexual abuse by an adult in childhood. It is focused on exploring their feelings and how they want to change.

It runs once a week for an hour and a half and is facilitated by two female therapists.

Family Therapy

We offer short term (up to 6 weeks) family therapy to families having difficulties in relation to an experience of sexual abuse or assault.

Training

Southampton Rape Crisis can also offer training on issues relating to sexual assault and are happy to come and talk to community groups and other agencies about our work.

Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA)

Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) funded by the Home Office and Southampton City Safety Partnership.  This new post works within a multi-agency setting to provide a pro-active advocacy and support service to victims of sexual violence within and outside of the criminal justice system including:

1. Practical help for clients with keeping safe and accessing appropriate healthcare and other relevant services.
2. Support through the reporting process and ciminal justice system.
